Bhadrachalam: UP Woman Reunited with Family after 25 Years

Khammam: Shanti Devi, a native of Banda district in Uttar Pradesh, who left her home in a distressed almost 25 years ago, comes to end and finally met her son, Dinesh Pal.

Srinivasa Rao of Annam Seva Foundation in Khammam said, “In December 2019, a resident called me and informed me about the woman. She was then living on the roads and pavements in the town in a makeshift tent, where she cooked and ate whatever available and was using drainage water for drinking and bath.

No one knew about her identity since she never spoke with anyone nor did she allow anyone to come near her, she was mentally unsound, and was shifted to Annam Seva Foundation orphanage in Khammam.

But with the proper medical care, she was able to identify herself as Shanti Devi of Uttar Pradesh and said she had left her husband and children nearly 25 years ago.

Based on address provided by her, Srinivas Rao contacted the police in her native place and came know that her husband died in 2013 and her children three sons and two daughters left the village in search of jobs.

Fortunately, Srinivas Rao with the help of local people in UP trace one of her sons, Dinesh, who was a 10-year-old when his mother left the family. Dinesh and other family members spoke with Shanti Devi and through a video call and identified her.

Dinesh who is 35 now came to Bhadrachalam and thanked Srinivas Rao for the care he showed towards his mother and to unite them and took his mother with him to Uttar Pradesh.
