New Delhi: On November 11, 2024, Vistara Airlines operated its final flights under its brand before merging fully with Air India. This merger brings down the number of full-service carriers in India’s aviation industry from five to just one over the past 17 years. Singapore Airlines will hold a 25.1% stake in Air India following the merger, which also marks the end of Vistara, an airline partly owned by a foreign carrier due to FDI liberalization.
The occasion stirred a wave of emotions across social media, as netizens expressed nostalgia and gratitude for Vistara’s service. Many users posted heartfelt messages, sharing memories of their experiences with the airline and thanking Vistara for its contribution to Indian aviation. This farewell highlights a significant shift in India’s airline industry, with Air India now positioned as the sole full-service carrier.
