Under-Construction Bridge Collapses Before Inauguration in Bihar

Bihar: In Bihar’s Araria district, a portion of an under-construction bridge over the Bakra River collapsed before its inauguration. The bridge, built at a cost of ₹12 crore to facilitate travel between Kursakanta and Sikti, came apart within seconds. Visuals of the incident showed the bridge tilting and collapsing into the river, while a crowd gathered nearby captured the event.

No injuries were reported following the collapse. Sikti MLA Vijay Kumar attributed the collapse to negligence by the construction company’s owner and called for an investigation by the administration. The incident highlighted significant safety concerns, with people seen standing dangerously close to the remaining portions of the bridge.

The bridge was intended to improve local connectivity, but the collapse of a major portion, especially the section over the river, has raised questions about construction standards and oversight. The portion built on the banks remains intact.
