Hyderabad: Civil Aviation Ministry has permitted the Telangana Government to use drones for the delivery of Covid-19 Vaccines. The permission exemption is valid for one year or until further orders.
The grant of these permissions is intended to achieve the dual objectives of faster vaccine delivery and improved healthcare access by ensuring primary healthcare delivery at the citizen’s doorstep. The Ministry said this will ensure access to health care to the last mile and limiting human exposure to COVID-prone areas through aerial delivery.
The Telangana government had sought the exemption from Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Rules of 2021, in March 2021, to incorporate drones into their logistics systems.
Earlier this month, similar permission was granted to the Indian Council of Medical Research for conducting a feasibility study of Covid-19 vaccine delivery using drones in collaboration with IIT Kanpur.
