World Champion Boxer Nikhat Zareen Appointed as DSP, Joins Telangana Police

Hyderabad: Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen has been appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and submitted her joining report to the Director General of Police (DGP) Dr. Jitender on Wednesday. This appointment comes as recognition of her outstanding achievements in the world of sports, particularly boxing, where she has secured the title of two-time world boxing champion and also won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

The DGP of Telangana announced her appointment on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), expressing pride in her accomplishments and welcoming her into her new role. He emphasized that her journey from Nizamabad to the world stage has been inspirational for Telangana and the country. Zareen is expected to bring the same dedication and passion to her new role in law enforcement as she has in her boxing career.

Nikhat Zareen has been one of India’s prominent athletes in recent years, and this appointment as DSP is a testament to her hard work, discipline, and the pride she has brought to the nation through her achievements in the sport. The Telangana police and state officials look forward to her continued service, this time contributing to the state in a new capacity.

Earlier… Mohammed Siraj, Nikhat Zareen Awarded Group 1 Jobs and Plots in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Telangana government announced the allocation of 600 square yards of house sites in Hyderabad for shooter Esha Singh, two-time world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen, and India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj.

Additionally, Group-1 jobs will be offered to Mohammed Siraj and Nikhat Zareen in recognition of their contributions to sports. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting on Thursday, July 31. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy praised Siraj’s role in India’s T20 World Cup victory and highlighted his contributions to the Indian cricket team.

Siraj will be awarded a Group-1 job, potentially allowing him to join the police force as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

The chief minister also criticized the previous BRS government for not employing boxer Nikhat Zareen in the state government despite her winning two world championship gold medals in 2022 and 2023.

Nikhat, a native of Nizamabad, experienced a significant setback at the Olympic Games boxing competition, losing 0-5 to Asian Games gold medallist Wu Yu in a lopsided bout. She was unseeded for the Games because the International Olympic Committee (IOC) does not recognize the International Boxing Association (IBA), which conducts the world championships.
