New International Cricket Stadium to be Built in Hyderabad: CM Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced the construction of a new international cricket stadium in Hyderabad, to be located at Begarikancha on the city’s outskirts. This location is also the site for the newly established Young India Skills University. The project is part of the state government’s broader initiative to promote sports, with initial discussions held with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Revanth Reddy emphasized the government’s commitment to sports, highlighting the allocation of Rs 321 crore in the 2024-25 state budget. He also mentioned that a new sports policy, inspired by Haryana’s sports policy, will be unveiled in the next Assembly session. The Chief Minister called for suggestions from opposition parties to enhance the promotion of sports.

Reddy noted a decline in sports activities at several existing stadiums in Hyderabad, including Yousufguda, Gachibowli, Saroornagar, and LB Stadium, the latter being used more frequently for political events.

Additionally, the state cabinet decided to allot 600 square yards of house sites each to shooter Esha Singh, two-time world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen, and international cricketer Mohammed Siraj. The cabinet also approved Group-1 jobs for Zareen and Siraj, exempting Siraj from the usual educational requirement of a degree, as he has only completed intermediate (Class 12). This exemption allows Siraj potential direct entry into high-ranking positions such as Deputy Superintendent of Police if he opts for a career in the police force.
