Chief Minister of Telangana, K. Chandrashekar Rao recalled the contribution of Narendra Luther on his death and expressed his condolences.
Hyderabad: Narendra Luther, Former civil servant and prominent city-based writer, historian passed away on Tuesday of respiratory arrest. He was 89. Luther was suffering from urosepsis and bed sores and was getting treated at the Care Hospitals, Banjara Hills.
Narendra Luther was born in 1932, he was a writer, civil servant, author, and columnist. He died on the morning of Tuesday, 19 January 2021 in Hyderabad, Telangana State India. He worked on the history and culture of erstwhile Hyderabad state and its rulers. He was President of the Society to Save Rocks, Hyderabad, India.
Narendra Luther was an acknowledged expert on the history and culture of Hyderabad. He had written exclusively on this subject and authored many books. He had won several awards for his work in Urdu. Some of his books and articles had been translated into several Indian and foreign languages. He had also produced many acclaimed documentaries including India’s first full-length animation film on the love story of the founder of Hyderabad. His documentary won two Golden Astor awards.
He is survived by wife Bindi, daughter Sandhya and son Rahul. Born in Hoshiarpur in Punjab in 1932, he began his stint in Indian administrative service in Kurnool in1956 and was posted to Hyderabad in 1959. Mr Luther quickly developed a fondness for Hyderabad’s history and took to the city with his knowledge of Urdu.
