Comic Munawar Faruqui Not Released from Jail, Since 30 hours Order by Supreme Court
New Delhi: Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui was not released on second day from Madhya Pradesh Jail, where he is being held for more than a month.
The authorities of Indore jail, where he is being held, said they are yet to receive any order from the Supreme Court.
Mr. Faruqui has claimed that he was invited by the organizers of the show and was present in the venue, but he had not made any such jokes that day.
The Supreme Court agreed that procedure was not followed during his arrest and the charges in the FIR were vague.
Mr. Faruqui was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Friday. The court further issued notice to the Madhya Pradesh government and put on hold a warrant against the comedian in Uttar Pradesh.
