Multistory Under Construction Building Collapses Amid Heavy Rain in Bengaluru: 1 Dead, 5 Trapped

Bengaluru: An under-construction building in Babusapalya, East Bengaluru, collapsed on Tuesday, leading to the tragic death of one person. Rescue teams are working hard to free five others still trapped under the debris. So far, 14 individuals have been rescued. Heavy rains, which have been battering the city for the past week, are suspected to have played a role in the incident.

At the time of the collapse, 20 people were inside the building. DCP D Devaraja confirmed the details of the rescue efforts and casualty numbers. Waterlogging due to the rains has severely disrupted life across Bengaluru, with schools and transportation affected. In some cases, residents, such as those in Yelahanka, had to be evacuated by boat after flooding.

Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, assured the public that the government is doing its best to manage the situation, stating that while natural events cannot be controlled, efforts are underway to minimize the suffering. He promised strict action against those responsible for illegal construction and announced a survey to prevent such incidents in the future. Meanwhile, pumps and disaster response teams are active in affected areas, draining water and providing relief.

This incident reflects the broader challenges the city is facing due to ongoing torrential rains and flooding.
