Telangana Grants More Powers and Legal Authority to HYDRAA

Hyderabad: The Telangana Cabinet has granted legal authority and more power to the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) to manage and protect lakes, reservoirs, and nalas within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) area. This includes jurisdiction over 27 urban local bodies and 51 Gram Panchayats.

Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced that the rules have been amended to extend to HYDRAA the same powers held by municipalities, corporations, and other departments. This move is intended to give HYDRAA greater freedom in fulfilling its responsibilities.

Additionally, 169 officers and 946 outsourced employees from various departments will be assigned to work under HYDRAA to support its operations. However, the minister did not specify the exact legal steps taken by the cabinet to provide these powers.

The HYDRAA (Hyderabad Disaster Management and Assets Protection Agency) has begun demolitions to safeguard the Full Tank Level (FTL) of lakes. Authorities have initiated action against unauthorized sheds and buildings in Madhapur and Medchal Dundigal Municipality. There is a strong police presence at Lakshmi Srinivasa Villas in Mallampet as illegal structures are being demolished.
