LK Advani among all 32 Accused Acquitted in Babri Masjid Demolition Case

LucknowThe demolition of the Babri mosque in Ayodhya on 6th December1992, was not planned, A judge in Uttar Pradesh acquitted all 32 accused of conspiracy charges in his judgement.

SBI special judge, whose term had been extended for this judgement said the audio and video evidence that the CBI submitted before the court did not prove any conspiracy. “The audio of the speeches were also not clear,” he said.

“Anti-social elements brought down the structure. The accused leaders tried to stop these people,” said the Judge.

“The accused tried to stop the demolition,” said special CBI judge SK Yadav. The CBI judge further said the “anti-social elements” Hindu activists demolished the 16th-century Babri mosque.

The mosque demolition was followed by a series of Rath Yatras by LK Advani, whose Ram temple campaign lifted the BJP to the national spotlight.

Mr. Advani, Mr. Joshi, Uma Bharti, and Kalyan Singh, who are among the 32 surviving accused, were allegedly present on the stage near the mosque at the time of demolition, where politicians, religious leaders and temple campaigners had delivered speeches.

There were 49 accused in the case out of which 17 died.

Some of the high-profile leaders in the case include senior BJP leaders and Ex Deputy prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharati, Kalyan Singh, among others. Apart from them, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, Champat Rai, and others are also accused.

Earlier, the Special CBI judge Surendra Kumar Yadav directed all the 32 accused, including former deputy Prime Minister LK Advani, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, BJP leaders MM Joshi, Uma Bharti and Vinay Katiar, to remain present in the court on the day of the judgment.

The investigating agencies said they instigated the crowd with their speeches. They had all been accused of criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity and inciting activists with incendiary speeches from a dais next to the Mosque.

In 1993, the CBI or Central Bureau of Investigation filed a single, consolidated charge sheet against 48 people including Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray.

Earlier in November, the Supreme Court handed over the site claimed by both Hindus and Muslims for the building of a Ram temple. Prime Minister Narendra Modi performing the rituals conducted the groundbreaking ceremony earlier this year.
