Haridwar, 14 April: Kumbh Mela To Continue, No Discussions On Early Close: Confirmed Officials
The mega Kumbh Mela at Haridwar to continue till April 30, official clarified that there was no discussion to close it early on account of surging Covid infections.
Earlier… The Kumbh Mela at Haridwar is likely to early, following negotiations between the Uttarakhand government officials and religious leaders.
According to sources. State government considering the nationwide criticism has been trying to persuade the religious leaders and seer groups to end the event and leave Haridwar, since there was no distancing and hardly any masks when seers and their followers walked down the steps for Shahi Asnan in the river.
Thousands of devotees have been gathering at the Kumbh event in Hardwar at banks of the river Ganga for a Shahi Asnan (holy dip), raising fears in Covid cases amid a surge in covid infections across India.
According to government sources, more than 9 lakhs devotees had taken Shahi Asnan till today said the Information Department of the Uttarakhand government.
Sanjay Gunjyal, Police officer told media that, “People are being fined for not following social distancing in non-crowded ghats, but it is very hard to fine people in the main ghats, which are very crowded,”
