Hyderabad: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials from the Hyderabad Zonal Unit (HZU) seized over 1.39 kilograms of gold worth ₹1 crore from a passenger at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad. The incident occurred on Saturday when the male passenger arrived from Dubai on flight EK-528.
The DRI officers intercepted the passenger in the exit area of the International Arrival Hall and conducted a thorough inspection. During the search, they discovered two yellow-colored metal bars, shaped like batteries, concealed in the passenger’s belongings—one hidden in his left shoe and the other in his backpack. Additionally, a yellow-colored metal chain was recovered.
The total weight of the seized gold amounted to 1,390.850 grams, with an estimated value of ₹1,00,06,909. The gold was confiscated, and the passenger was arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. An investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.
