Contempt Case: High Court Directs IAS Officer to Serve 20 People on Ramzan Fast for a Week

Hyderabad. 17 April: A Bench of Two judges, Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B Vijaysen Reddy of Telangana High Court directed an IAS officer to undertake social work to avoid penalty imposed on him in contempt of a court case on Friday,

High court directed IAS officer Syed Yasin Quereshi, Deputy Commissioner, Prohibition and Excise Department, Mahabubnagar, to commence social work to avoid penalty and to serve at least 20 people for a week in the neighborhood mosque to break the Ramzan fast.

Earlier, a single bench imposed a penalty Syed Yasin Qureshi, Excise Deputy Commissioner, for not following the court’s order to release a jaggery lorry on time.

The panel was dealing with a contempt appeal filed by the officer and was not satisfied with the officer’s explanation. However, the High court bench accepted the officer’s unqualified apology and directed him to serve at least 20 people for a week in the neighborhood mosque to break the Ramzan fast.
