Heavy Rain Forecasted in Telangana from 26-29 June

Hyderabad: Telangana is bracing for heavy rainfall between 26 to 29 June, particularly affecting the northern, eastern, and central parts of the state. In Hyderabad, light rains are forecasted for June 26, with more moderate rains accompanied by thundershowers and gusty winds on June 27 and 28.

IMD Alerts:

  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert across most parts of the state during this period.

Rainfall Data:

  • June Rainfall: Hyderabad recorded 134.5 mm, surpassing the normal range of 84.5 mm, categorizing it as ‘excess’ rainfall.
  • Statewide Data: From June 1 to 25, Telangana recorded 121.9 mm, an 18% increase from the normal 103.2 mm.

District Rainfall Levels:

  • Large Excess: Jogulamba Gadwal (156.7 mm), Nalgonda (148.3 mm), Nagarkurnool (119.5 mm), Narayanpet (117.5 mm), Wanaparthy (110.7 mm)
  • Excess Rainfall: Hyderabad, Suryapet, Siddipet, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Karimnagar, Hanumakonda, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar
  • Deficient: Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial
  • Normal: Most other districts

Forecast for June 26:

  • Thunderstorms with rain, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) likely at isolated places in several districts including Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Nalgonda, and others.

Historical Rainfall Trends:

  • Telangana has seen above-normal rainfall for the past three years.
  • Highest Annual Rainfall:
    • 2022-23: 1,387.8 mm
    • 2020-21: 1,322.4 mm
    • 2021-22: 1,180.5 mm
  • 2023-24 Rainfall: 994.8 mm, slightly above the normal average of 919 mm.

Experts’ Predictions:

  • Above-normal rainfall expected this monsoon, with widespread rains across the state anticipated after mid-July.
