Former Afghan President Given Asylum in Dubai on ‘Humanitarian Grounds.

UAE: Ashraf Ghani, Former Afghan President who fled with $169 million in a helicopter and has been reportedly given asylum in Dubai on ‘humanitarian grounds.

Ashraf Ghani, who fled the country on Sunday night as the Taliban encircled the Kabul capital of Afghanistan, saying he wanted to avoid bloodshed.

According to reports Ashraf Ghani took cash with him in four cars and a helicopter loaded with $169 million in bags of cash and was forced to leave some of the money behind as it would not all fit on the helicopter.

He reportedly fled to Tajikistan, but was diverted to Oman when officials in Tajikistan refused him permission to land and he was diverted to Uzbekistan.

According to Reuters, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani is in the United Arab Emirates, the Gulf state’s foreign ministry said on Wednesday after he left as Taliban fighters seized control.
