Chennai: The Tamil Nadu chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Armstrong, was brutally hacked to death by six bike-borne men near his home in the Sembium area on Friday. Armstrong was attacked while talking with party functionaries and later declared dead at the hospital. The police suspect the murder may be revenge for the killing of gangster Arcot Suresh last year, and they have detained eight suspects for interrogation. The attackers might have posed as food delivery agents, although this is unconfirmed. The opposition criticized the ruling DMK, citing deteriorating law and order. BSP chief Mayawati condemned the killing and called for justice. Armstrong, a lawyer and former Chennai Corporation Council member, was recognized for his advocacy for Dalit rights.
