New Delhi: Baba Ramdev, the co-founder of Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, made a personal appearance before the Supreme Court on Tuesday, April 16. He offered an unconditional apology for the dissemination of misleading advertisements and for making derogatory remarks about Allopathic medicines, both of which violated a previous commitment made to the Court.
“Humne jo kiya vo uss samay nai khan chaiye tha…hum aagey yaad rakhengey (What we did at that point of time, it should not have been done. We will remember this in future)…vo utsah mein aisa ho gya(it happened in an impulse)…aagey se hum nai krenegy(won’t do so in future)”, Ramdev said in response to Justice Kohli’s queries.
Acharya Balkrishna, Patanjali’s Managing Director, also tendered a personal apology to the Court. Patanjali’s legal representative, Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, informed the Court of their willingness to issue a public apology as a gesture of remorse.
“Hume nahi krana chahiye tha(We should not have done it)”, Balkrishna also told the bench.
The bench, consisting of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah, presided over the contempt case involving Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, Acharya Balkrishna, and Baba Ramdev concerning the misleading advertisements. During the hearing, the justices directly engaged with Ramdev and Balkrishna, questioning their actions that contradicted the earlier commitment to the Court.
The bench decided to adjourn the hearing until April 23, allowing Ramdev and Balkrishna an opportunity to rectify their actions.
