Army Chopper Crashed in Tamil Nadu, General Bipin Rawat, Wife, Among 13 Killed

New Delhi: General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff, and his wife died today after a military chopper crashed in Tamil Nadu, killing 13 on board. The only survivor, an Air Force Group Captain, is being treated for severe burns.

Tamil Nadu: Indian Air Force Army chopper carrying Gen. Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff, and 13 others crashed today in the Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu.

Five persons died and their bodies have been recovered from the crash site and four seriously injured have been taken to hospital.

According to sources, General Rawat’s wife, his Defence Assistant, security commandos, and Indian Air Force personnel were reportedly among the 14 on chopper which crashed.

The Mi-17V5 helicopter was airborne from Sulur for Wellington. There were 14 persons on board, including the crew, said the Air Force in a statement.
