After the heart wrenching video of Ayesha Banu, who commits suicide in Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad, Gujrat due to severe harassment from her husband and in-laws, communities across India have strongly urged the members of the Muslim community to eliminate the un-Islamic practice of Dowry system.

Asaduddin Owaisi, MP, President All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Sharply Reacted on Ayesha Suicide Case and Expressed Angered on People Who are Demanding Dowry and said,

I strongly appeal to everyone, irrespective of which religion you belong to, please end this greed for dowry. Torturing and harassing women is not ‘mardaangi’.
This poor girl was tortured for dowry which eventually led her to take her own life. The family should be ashamed for pushing her to take such a drastic step.
What kind of men are these? Is there no humanity left in them? They beat up the women in their house and pretend to be good in the outside world. Do no d but you cannot cheat Allah.”
He then appealed to the women of the country to not fear these men and take a stand with the help of our law.
He said, ” Never get scared, do not even think of taking your life. We are with you, your lives are valuable. If your father is in plight then so are we.
Leave those men who torment you. Your life is long, kick these fools away with the help of the law. Do not live with them.”

Dr. Asma Zehra said, “Dowry is ‘Haraam’ and an act of sin. Marriages should be made simple and easy according to Sunnah of Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Participation and attendance in marriages where dowry is given or taken should be avoided totally to eradicate this evil,”

“Collective Negligence of Muslim Community needs immediate Introspection.”

The tragic incident of suicide of sister Ayesha Arif Khan has Shaken the Muslim Community across India. The issue of Dowry and harassment for Dowry has led to the death of an innocent daughter. This needs condemnation in strongest terms. Evil of Dowry has deep roots in the society. The rich & poor, educated & illiterate class continue to demand cash, furniture, vehicle, and dinner from brides’ parents. Islamic laws empower women with Meher (Dowry) at time of marriage and lay responsibility of setting up of house on man as he is the “Qawwam” caretaker of the family. It is a sad reality that Muslims Community has gone into collective transgression by deviating from the path of Islam. Lack of Awareness & deep rooted unislamic customs and traditions have made Marriage difficult & poor girls whose parents are not in position to pay dowry spend year without marriage. After marriage, the women face domestic issues, harassment from husband and in laws but there is no Redressal system in place in community or society. Suicide is Haram (forbidden) but circumstances leading to this event needs deeper introspection.

Dr. Asma Zehra chief organizer Women’s Wing AIMPLB appealed to member of Muslim Community to eradicate Dowry evil on war footing. Dowry is Haraam, totally forbidden and Act of Sin. Marriages should be made SIMPLE AND EASY according to Sunnah of Holy Prophet (PBUH). Participation and attendance in marriages where dowry is given or taken should be avoided totally to curb this evil. Ayesha was suffering from Harassment by husband and in-laws Depression & grief with loss of hope, and severe social pressure. Her last words that she “doesn’t want to see the face of any human being” reflects her agony and pain Her departing video has shaken the community, especially women. Women’s Wing AIMPLB appeals to the elders Muslim Community especially ulemas and Imaams to create awareness of simple marriage and condemn the taking & giving of dowry in any form at Friday Sermons in Masajids.

Daughters of community are precious pearls. Their safety & security should be top priority of the community. It is time to introspect and Repent for this collective criminal negligence of Muslim community towards the daughters.
