AIMPLB and Owaisi Reject Any Reduction in Waqf Boards’ Power

New Delhi/Hyderabad: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has stated it will not tolerate any reduction or restriction on the powers of Waqf boards. They oppose proposed amendments to the Waqf Act, 2013, which they claim aim to change the nature of Waqf properties, potentially allowing the government or individuals to take possession of these properties. AIMPLB emphasized that Waqf properties are donations for religious and charitable purposes and are protected by the Constitution and the Shariat Application Act, 1937.

However, government sources argue that the proposed amendments aim to empower Muslim women and children and address the misuse of Waqf properties. They claim a “dangerous narrative” is being spread by certain clerics. The proposed amendments include the inclusion of women in Waqf boards and ensuring land verification before declaring it as Waqf property. There is no set timeline for when these amendments will be passed.

Asaduddin Owaisi also opposes these amendments and has voiced his concerns on social media, and said..

Sarkar ke Waqf Qanoon mein Tabdeeli ke Mansube par Tanqeed ki, ise Deeni Huqooq ke liye Khatra Bataya

(Criticized the Government’s Plan to Amend the Waqf Act, Calling it a Threat to Religious Rights)

Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP, criticized the BJP and RSS for their longstanding opposition to the Wakf Board and its properties, linking it to their ‘Hindutva agenda.’ Owaisi expressed concern over the Centre’s plan to introduce a bill to curb the Wakf Board’s powers, pointing out that such information should be presented to Parliament first, respecting its supremacy. He voiced these concerns during a press conference on Sunday.
