Hindu man was Cremated by Muslim Family who gave him Shelter during CoronaVirus Lockdown in their Home in Hyderabad after his family stated their inability to step up for final rites.
Hyderabad: A Muslim family in Chilkalguda area had taken the responsibility of the cremation of a Hindu man after his family stated their inability to step up for final rites.
Gogrey Datta, 25-year-old who is originally from of Latur district in Maharashtra state died due to illness two days ago in a home where he was given shelter by the Muslim family of Syed Saber Hussain in Chilkalguda area a few months ago.
Datta had come to the Hyderabad city around five years back in the search of work. He was working a driver with an advocate for a few years and later took up odd jobs and lived at a sidewalk at Chilkalguda.
Syed Saber Hussain said, “During the CoronaVirus lockdown and he stayed there on sidewalk, hence we gave him a room to stay on the ground floor in our house. Since there was no work, we have taken care of his meals since the lockdown.”
For some days, Datta became ill as he was addicted to liquor and could not get it as he had no money. “Fearing that he might have contracted coronavirus the Muslim family took him to the King Kothi Hospital for a test and he got a negative report for Covid-19, and the doctors provided some medicine to him for fever,” said ASI Mohammed Taheruddin, Chilkalguda police station.
On Friday Datta died in the room and with the help of the Chilkalguda police the Muslim family contacted his family members in Latur and informed them about his death. “The relatives reasoned that the villagers were asking that they do not enter the village for a fortnight after returning to Latur,”
After discussing with the family members, Saber and his friend Mahmood approached the Chilkalguda police and said they will take responsibility for the cremation of Datta. “Saber and the Chilkalguda police approached M Srinivas of Real Vivek Foundation and told them about the issue. M Srinivas readily agreed to assist them in cremation,” said.
On Sunday, the body was cremated by the foundation in presence of Saber and Mahmood after the postmortem examination.
