Hyderabad: Criticizing private labs for the sharp rise in the number of positive cases in Telangana, the state government has suspended private laboratories from carrying out the CoronaVirus tests.
Earlier the ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) had allowed 18 private laboratories and 10 government-run laboratories to conduct Corona Virus diagnostic tests in Hyderabad.
Telangana government accusing certain private labs of contaminating the samples and noting the difference in numbers, suspended private labs to conduct any further CoronaVirus tests. They were also accused of violating the testing protocols and lacking infrastructure. The team set up by the government to conduct inspection reportedly detected major discrepancies in the handling of CoronaVirus tests.
Telangana on Friday recorded the highest-ever single day Covid-19 positive cases of 1,892 that took the total tally to 20,462 positives to date.
Earlier today, one of the private labs has reported a very positivity rate. The said lab has reported 2,672 positive cases against 3,726 total samples tested, said the state Health Department.
“The positivity rate is 71.1 percent, which is a gross variation and discrepancy in the notified positivity rate of Coronavirus till date. The tested negatives are only 962 out of 3,726 samples. The issue needs to be evaluated by an expert committee and until then the data of the said lab has been kept under suspension,” the Health Department said in the bulletin.
Telangana reported eight more CoronaVirus deaths on Friday, taking their number to 283 as 1,892 fresh cases of the infection, the highest single-day spike so far in the state, pushed the tally to 20,462.
Out of the 1,892 fresh cases, 1,658 were reported from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area, the epicenter of the virus spread in the state, followed by Ranga Reddy district, neighboring Hyderabad, with 56 cases.
A bulletin issued late Friday night said 10,195 people have been discharged so far, while 9,984 patients were under treatment.
