6 Flyovers, Underpasses to be Constructed Around KBR Park in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Congress government has approved the construction of six flyovers and underpasses around KBR Park in Hyderabad to address traffic congestion.

Project Details:

  • Cost: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) estimates the project to cost approximately Rs 586 crores.
  • Consultation and Design: The project will include consultations and 3D walkthroughs to ensure effective design and minimal impact on traffic congestion.
  • Key Areas: Six junctions around KBR Park will be examined for traffic congestion and design specifications.

Proposed location

  • KBR Park Entrance Junction (LV Prasad Junction)
  • Jubilee Hills Checkpost junction
  • Road No. 45 junction
  • Filmnagar junction
  • Maharaja Agrasen junction (Banjara Hills Road No. 12)
  • Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital junction (Banjara Hills Road No. 10)

Background:

  • Previous Government’s Plans: The BRS government initiated the Strategic Road Development Program (SRDP) in 2015, proposing flyovers and underpasses around KBR Park. This included the removal of several hundred trees and the lifting of construction height restrictions around the park.
  • Eco-sensitive Zone: Currently, a 25 to 35-metre eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) exists around KBR National Park. The previous government had sought to reduce this and received approval in 2020, with restrictions on tree felling within the park’s first boundary wall.

Future Plans:

  • Underground Tunnels: Alongside flyovers, the project includes proposed underground tunnels, one of which would run under KBR Park, connecting Banjara Hills Road No. 3 and Jubilee Hills Road No. 45.

Additional Tunnels Proposed:

  1. ITC Kohenur to Wipro junction (via Khajaguda, Nanakramguda)
  2. ITC Kohenur to JNTU junction (via Mindspace Junction)
  3. ITC Kohenur to Banjara Hills Road No. 10 (via Jubilee Hills Road No. 45)
  4. GVK1 Mall to Nanalnagar (via Masab Tank)

Government’s Commitment: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy aims to develop the city, particularly around KBR Park, a hub for leisure and work, ensuring necessary permissions from the central government for the project.
