Bengaluru: A building collapse caused by heavy rains has tragically claimed five lives as of Wednesday morning, with rescue efforts still ongoing. The under-construction building in the Horamavu Agara area, located in the city’s eastern region, collapsed on Tuesday afternoon. Around 20 people were reportedly inside when the structure gave way. So far, 13 people have been rescued, while five have been injured.

Despite ongoing rains, rescue teams, including the NDRF, SDRF, fire brigade, police, and a dog squad, are working to clear debris and locate any remaining trapped individuals. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar visited the collapse site on Tuesday night and confirmed that 21 people had been trapped under the debris. He revealed that the building was under construction illegally, and vowed to take strict action against those responsible. He also emphasized the need for mandatory construction permits and better monitoring to prevent future incidents.

Meanwhile, heavy rains continue to disrupt life in the city, causing waterlogging in various areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow’ alert, warning of continued heavy rain. Schools have been closed for the day, and IT companies have encouraged their employees to work from home as a precaution.
