“400 Paar, But In Another Country” – Shashi Tharoor’s Jibe

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor mocked the BJP on Friday following the Labour Party’s landslide victory in the UK general elections, quipping that “ab ki baar, 400 paar” finally happened, but in another country. BJP leaders had previously predicted winning over 370 seats, with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) crossing 400 seats in India’s Lok Sabha elections. However, in the recent polls, the BJP won 240 seats, falling short of a majority, while the NDA secured 293 seats, enough for a mandate.

Labour Wins UK Election Keir Starmer To be New UK PM, Rishi Sunak Concedes Defeat

London: Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labour Party, has addressed supporters in central London following a historic election victory, pledging a period of “national renewal” after 14 years of Conservative governance. Speaking to a jubilant crowd, Starmer emphasized the importance of the mandate given by voters and the responsibilities it entails.

“You campaigned for it, you fought for it, you voted for it and now it has arrived. Change begins now,” he declared, highlighting the efforts of Labour staff and supporters. He acknowledged the significance of the victory, stating, “It feels good, I have to be honest … This is what it is for. A changed Labour party, ready to serve our country.”

Keir Starmer stressed the need to rejuvenate the country’s foundational ideas and to ensure fairness for those who work hard and abide by the rules. “Our task is nothing less than renewing the ideas that hold this country together. National renewal. If you work hard, if you play by the rules, this country should give you a fair chance to get on… We have to restore that,” he affirmed.

He also called for a return to politics driven by public service and integrity, marking a shift from recent years. “We have to return politics to public service, show that politics can be a force for good. Make no mistake, that is the great test for politics in this era. The fight for trust is the battle that defines our age,” Starmer concluded.

This speech followed Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s concession of defeat in the general election, marking a significant transition in UK politics.
