13 Babies Rescued in Hyderabad, Inter-State Child Trafficking Racket Busted by Rachakonda Police

Hyderabad: Rachakonda Police Commissionerate has dismantled an inter-state child trafficking ring, rescuing 13 babies, including four baby boys and nine baby girls, the youngest just two months old. The racket was exposed following the arrest of Shobha Rani, a Registered Medical Practitioner, on May 22 for selling a child for ₹4.50 lakh.

The investigation led to the arrest of 11 people, including eight women, who had purchased the children from three traffickers based in Delhi and Pune. The babies, sourced from poor families, were sold for amounts ranging from ₹1.8 lakh to ₹5.5 lakh. The arrested individuals are residents of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The rescued children, aged between two months and three years, will be placed under the care of the child welfare department until their biological parents are identified. The buyers, who were mostly couples unable to conceive or unwilling to endure the lengthy legal adoption process, expressed their deep emotional attachment to the children they had bought and raised as their own. Some buyers, although heartbroken, indicated a willingness to return the children if their biological parents were found. Others hoped to adopt the children legally if the biological parents did not come forward.
