Hyderabad: One elderly person died and at least 10 people sustained injuries when a two-decade-old tree suddenly uprooted and fell on the busy Shamsheergunj road in Hyderabad on Monday afternoon. The incident, which occurred around 2 pm, also damaged three vehicles, including an auto rickshaw and a scooter. Several pedestrians and three individuals in the vehicles were trapped under the tree.
Residents quickly responded, rescuing the trapped individuals and transporting two seriously injured people to a local hospital using an auto rickshaw and an ambulance.
In a related incident on the same day, one person died and at least four others were injured when another large tree fell on Shamsheergunj New Road. The deceased was identified as 65-year-old Mohd Saleh from Chandulal Baradari. This incident also caused damage to half a dozen vehicles, including an auto-rickshaw, four scooters, and a small kiosk. The fallen tree led to panic in the locality.
Local shopkeepers rushed to rescue those trapped. The Shahalibanda police, Falaknuma traffic police, and the GHMC’s DRF team arrived at the scene to clear the tree and restore traffic flow.
