Will HYDRA Demolish Necklace Road, GHMC Office? Owaisi Responds to FTL Demolition

Hyderabad: AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has raised concerns regarding the ongoing demolition drive carried out by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRA) agency. This agency has been actively demolishing structures across Hyderabad that were built on Full Tank Level (FTL) lands and in the buffer zones of lakes.

Owaisi’s Questions: During a press interaction on Sunday, August 25, Owaisi questioned the state government’s intentions, specifically asking if they would also demolish government buildings, such as those located at Hussain Sagar, which are similarly constructed on FTL lands. He also mentioned the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) office, allegedly built on a water pond, asking if it too would be demolished. Owaisi’s comments suggest that the government may be selectively targeting private properties while sparing its own.

HYDRA’s Demolition Activity: HYDRA has recently demolished several high-profile illegal structures, including actor Nagarjuna’s N Convention building, which was constructed in violation of regulations in the Tammidi Kunta buffer zone and FTL area. The FTL of Tammidi Kunta is 29.24 acres, and Nagarjuna’s property encroached upon approximately 1.12 acres in the FTL and 2 acres in the buffer zone.

Earlier in the week, HYDRA also demolished illegal constructions in the FTL and buffer zone of Gandipet Lake, further demonstrating its commitment to clearing encroachments.

Political Reactions: The opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party has accused the government of conducting “selective demolitions,” claiming that while certain private properties are being targeted, numerous properties belonging to Congress leaders, also built on FTL lands, remain untouched. This has raised questions about the impartiality of the demolition drive.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s Stance: In response to the criticisms, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy reaffirmed his commitment to removing all illegal constructions around lakes, including those owned by influential individuals, asserting that no one would be spared. Speaking at a religious event organized by the Hare Krishna Sanstha, Reddy emphasized that the government would not yield to pressure and would continue its efforts to protect the city’s lakes. He warned that those responsible for damaging natural resources would face severe consequences and invoked the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to stress the importance of safeguarding the environment.

Reddy also highlighted the growing problem of lake contamination due to drainage water from nearby constructions and called for collective responsibility to protect Hyderabad’s natural resources, which are vital for the city’s future.

HYDRA Demolish Actor Nagarjuna’s ‘N Convention’ in Madhapur

Hyderabad: HYDRA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection) officials began demolishing the ‘N Convention’ center in Madhapur, Hyderabad, on Saturday. The demolition was initiated due to the alleged illegal construction of the facility within the Full Tank Level (FTL) area of a nearby lake. The property is reportedly owned by Tollywood actor Nagarjuna. The authorities, accompanied by a police force, arrived early in the morning to commence the demolition.
