Mumbai, 06 March: Varavara Rao, an 81-year-old poet-activist released on bail after spending two year in Jail.
Varavara Rao was being granted bail for six months by the Bombay High Court on medical grounds last month.
Varavara Rao who was arrested since August 28, 2018 and has been in jail for more than two years in the Koregaon-Bhima case, discharged from Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital late Saturday.
He was undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital, he was admitted by the Maharashtra government following the high court’s intervention.
Varavara Rao’s lawyer Indira Jaisingh posted a photo of the poet-activist on Twitter and said “Free at last ! Varavara Rao out of Nanavati hospital 11.45 pm, 6th March 2021”
Mr. Varavara Rao has been requested by the court to:
- Stay in the Mumbai and be accessible for investigation every time needed.
- To submit his passport before the NIA (National Investigation Agency) court.
- Forbidden to establish any contact with his co-accused in the case.
- He has to submit a personal bond of ₹ 50,000 and two sureties of the same amount.
Last month, his lawyer before the Bombay High Court, urged to permit him to go home and stay with his family in Hyderabad, saying in last one year he spent 149 days in hospital.
