USA Police Arrest Killer of Dasari Gopikrishna of Andhra Pradesh

Houston: Police in Texas have arrested a man in connection with the murder of Dasari Gopikrishna, a 32-year-old Indian national, during a robbery at a convenience store in Dallas.

  • Gopikrishna, who arrived in the US eight months ago, was fatally shot on June 21 at a convenience store in Pleasant Grove, Dallas.
  • He was originally from Yajali village in the Bapatla district of Andhra Pradesh.
  • Arrest and Charges:
  • Police arrested 21-year-old Davonta Mathis for the murder. Mathis faces capital murder charges for shooting Gopikrishna multiple times, including in the head.
  • During the robbery, Mathis entered the store, shot Gopikrishna, and stole items before fleeing.
  • Gopikrishna was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later died. Mathis was initially charged with robbery, but the charge was upgraded to capital murder after Gopikrishna’s death. His bond is set at $7.5 million.
  • Mathis is also charged with a separate fatal shooting in Waco on June 20, where he killed 60-year-old Muhammad Hussain.
  • Community and Consulate Response:
  • The Indian consulate is arranging the repatriation of Gopikrishna’s body with the help of the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) and family friends.
  • All police autopsies and formalities have been completed, and the consulate aims to ship the body by Tuesday.
  • Gopikrishna’s murder has deeply affected the Indian community in Dallas and the surrounding areas.

Telugu Student from Andhra Pradesh Killed in US Supermarket Shooting

Amravati: Dasari Gopikrishna, a 32-year-old student from Bapatla district, Andhra Pradesh, was among four people killed in a supermarket shooting in Arkansas, USA. Gopikrishna had moved to the US eight months ago for better opportunities and was working at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce when the incident occurred.

On Saturday afternoon, while at the counter, an assailant entered the store and opened fire, critically injuring Gopikrishna. He collapsed at the scene and, despite being rushed to the hospital, died on Sunday during treatment. The attack also left nine others injured.

The tragic event has devastated his family and the community of Yajali in Karlapalem mandal. Gopikrishna leaves behind a wife and a son. CCTV footage captured the assailant entering the store, shooting Gopikrishna, and then fleeing after taking something from a shelf.
