Full-Time Traffic Marshals to Enhance Traffic Movement in Cyberabad’s IT Corridor

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police, in collaboration with IT companies, has launched the ‘Traffic Marshals’ initiative to address traffic congestion, especially in the IT corridor. The initiative is supported by the Society of Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) and various IT/ITes companies.

Key Points:

  • Launch and Support: The program was launched by Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis, and SCSC Secretary General Ramesh Kaza. Initially, 83 traffic marshals have been deployed.
  • Objective: The initiative aims to provide a congestion-free traffic flow in Cyberabad’s IT hub, easing daily commutes and creating a safe environment for industries.
  • Public-Private Partnership: This initiative exemplifies a public-private partnership where traffic marshals, funded by IT companies, are trained and deployed by the police.
  • Deployment: Traffic marshals are stationed at key junctions during peak hours (8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.) to manage traffic flow and support the Cyberabad Traffic Police in enforcing traffic rules.
  • Future Plans: The number of traffic marshals is expected to increase to 500 with additional support from the industry. Companies like Raheja Mind Space have already contributed to the funding for 30 marshals, with commitments from other companies like Phoenix and Sattva Group.

Roles and Responsibilities of Traffic Marshals:

  • Directing Vehicles: Ensure smooth passage of vehicles and reduce congestion at key junctions.
  • Pedestrian Safety: Guide pedestrian traffic for safe crossing.
  • Monitoring and Reacting: Monitor traffic flow, identify bottlenecks, and promptly respond to accidents or incidents.
  • Temporary Management Systems: Set up and dismantle temporary traffic management systems as needed.
