Hyderabad: The renovation works on the two monuments Taramati and Premamati were completed by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, in partnership with the Department of Heritage Telangana, with the support from US Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation.
As per folklore, it is said that Taramati and Premamati were prominent singer and dancer in the court of the seventh king of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, Abdullah Qutb Shah.
The location of the Tombs/mausoleum within the royal necropolis indicates their high standing in the Sultan’s court.
Conservation on these near-identical mausoleums included removal of 20th-century cement plaster from their domes, and re-plastering them with traditional lime plaster. Similarly, lime concrete was laid on the terrace to stop the water ingress into the structures.
The copper vessels of the finial atop the dome of Taramati’s mausoleum were repaired by a coppersmith before they were carefully reinstalled. Also, hand-chiseled stone parapet was reinstated on the perimeter edge upper plinth, and the ornamental stucco, medallions, and floral bands were carefully restored by the craftsmen.
Along with the conservation of the two monuments, the landscape around the monument was also developed.
