Hyderabad: TIMS, Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences being developed in Gachibowli, Hyderabad on the lines of PGI, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh offering high-end tertiary health care and research facilities, will be inaugurated for patients in this month June.

Telangana Health Minister Eatala Rajender informed the media that 15 floors of the hospital in Hyderabad are all set for services.

Telangana Health Minister, Eatala Rajender on Wednesday said that the workforce recruitment to the new tertiary hospital-cum-research center will be finished in another couple of days. The health department is currently in the process of hiring close to 650 clinical and non-clinical employees for TIMS, Gachibowli.

While addressing media the Minister said that the hospital is well-equipped to provide health care services to COVID-19 patients as well as out-patient (OP) services. He said that TIMS will offer its public services at the same level as the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad.

“A few days ago, we had soft-opened outpatient facilities at TIMS. The inpatient facilities and the whole hospital will be inaugurated either on June 28 or 29. This is another exceptional accomplishment for Telangana, as we were able to complete the project in a matter of just months,” Rajender said, during an inspection of the hospital facilities on Wednesday.

Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences has 1,224 beds out of which 1,000 beds have Oxygen supply and 50 beds with ventilator support.

“The Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao’s dream was to develop a high-end PG medical research facility that can provide tertiary medical care facilities to Covid-19 positive patients. We have managed to accomplish KCR’s vision at TIMS,” he said.

The facility is equipped with a cafeteria and Covid-19 positive patients need not worry about ordering or arranging food from outside. The furnishing works in all the 15 floors are complete and are ready for occupation.

The Minister advised people with Covid-19 signs to walk into the District Hospital in King Koti, Gandhi Hospital, or TIMS Gachibowli, and get themselves tested. “Instead of going to corporate hospitals and ending up paying the wealth, please come to our facilities and utilize them. Eetela Rajender urged people to get tested if they are symptomatic and try to be in-home quarantine if they test positive without symptoms (asymptomatic) can stay at home and our government health care workers will monitor their health over the phone,” Rajender said.

The Minister advised people not to defame Covid-19 positive cases. “If a family in your area tests positive for Covid-19 please don’t ignore them. If individuals continue to take the necessary precautions, there will be no harm to anybody,” he said.

He advised people not to believe in the rumors and discourage health workers and doctors who are fighting COVID-19. He claimed that irresponsible people are working to bring disrespect to the image of Hyderabad.

The state’s testing capacity has increased to 10,000 per day with private labs chipping in for tests, said the Minister.

Dr. Shanta Kumari, Special Chief Secretary of Medical and Health, and Dr. Ramesh Reddy, Director of Medical Education, along with Kaloji University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Karunakar Reddy and Osmania General Hospital Dr. Nagendar were present.
