Telangana Power Employees Protests Adani Group’s Entry; KTR Questions Rahul Gandhi

Hyderabad: Telangana’s decision to assign electricity bill collection to the Adani Group has faced strong opposition from the state’s power utility employees. They demonstrated outside the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) headquarters, demanding transparency from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy regarding the agreement with Adani Group, particularly for bill collection in Hyderabad’s Old City.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Electricity Employees criticized the potential privatization of services managed by SPDCL, NPDCL, Transco, Genco, and other power utilities. They emphasized that over 55,000 employees would protest state-wide if the decision isn’t revoked. They questioned the state’s claim of losing Rs.500 crore annually due to unpaid bills and suggested involving power utilities and unions in creating an effective collection strategy.

Ironically, Maharashtra Congress leaders protested against Adani Electricity in Mumbai over rising electricity prices and smart meters. This led BRS working president KT Rama Rao to question the Congress party’s inconsistent stance on the Adani Group.

“In Maharashtra, they protest against Adani Electricity but in Telangana, they want to hand over same job to Adani Saab! Any chance you can explain this dichotomy Rahul Gandhi Ji?” KTR asked.
