Telangana to Launch Sports University in 2024 – CM Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that the state will establish a Sports University in the next academic year with the goal of producing athletes capable of winning Olympic medals. Speaking at the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon’s closing event at Gachibowli Stadium, he emphasized the state’s commitment to developing world-class sports infrastructure, particularly to support rural talent. The university will involve international coaches and is modeled after the Young India Skills University.

During a recent visit to South Korea, CM Reddy explored the Korean National Sports University in Seoul, known for producing Olympic athletes. An agreement was reached to collaborate on setting up the Sports University in Hyderabad. As India plans to bid for the 2036 Summer Olympics, Reddy has requested the central government to consider Hyderabad as the host city.

The CM expressed confidence in Telangana athletes winning more medals at the 2028 Olympics, despite their underperformance in Paris. He also sought opportunities for Telangana to host future national and international sports events. He vowed to revitalize the Gachibowli sports village, which once hosted the Afro-Asian Games and World Military Games. The state government has introduced several sports initiatives, including a Group I post for cricketer Mohammed Siraj and rewards for boxing champion Nikhat Zareen. The event was attended by various state officials and dignitaries.
