Agra: The Taj Mahal is ready to welcome tourists today after six months of closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Arrangements were in full swing for the Historical 17th century monument to welcome tourists, following social distancing and other CoronaVirus related restrictions.
A maximum of 5,000 visitors will be allowed in a day into the monument.
Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials said they had not neglected the monument despites its gates having remained closed for so long.
Ticket sale will be online from the ASI website or mobile app and the Taj will remain closed on Fridays. Tickets will not be sold cash counters.
Only five visitors will be allowed at a time within the main mausoleum which houses the graves of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal.
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawans will remain at a distance and check visitors with hand-held metal detectors.
While no goods are to be carried inside the Taj Mahal, an ambulance would be ready at the gates of the monument.
