Birmingham: Mohammed Siraj delivered a sensational spell, taking 6 for 70 in 19.3 overs, as India bowled out England for 407 on Day 3 of the second Test at Edgbaston, earning a 180-run lead in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy clash.
On a flat surface, Siraj and Akash Deep (4-88) claimed all 10 wickets, dismantling England’s top and lower order. Despite being reduced to 84/5, England clawed back with a record 303-run stand between Jamie Smith (184)* and Harry Brook (158). Smith’s knock is now the highest-ever Test score by an England wicketkeeper.
However, India’s second new ball burst triggered a dramatic collapse as England tumbled from 387/5 to 407 all out in just 7.2 overs. Notably, England’s innings featured six ducks — the most ever in a 400+ Test total.
Siraj wrapped up the innings with sheer pace and precision, claiming his fourth Test five-for — his first in England — and finishing with a memorable six-wicket haul, earning a warm hug from Jasprit Bumrah as he walked off.
