Texas: In a sting operation aimed at curbing prostitution in Denton County, Texas, seven Indian nationals, including five Telugu men, were arrested along with 11 others. The operation was conducted by the Denton County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Highland Village Police Department, on August 14 and 15. The sting targeted individuals attempting to buy sexual favors for money.
Of the 18 men arrested, 14 were charged with solicitation of prostitution, two were charged with solicitation involving minors, and three faced additional charges of evading arrest or unlawful weapon possession. The Indians arrested included Bandi Nikhil, Galla Monish, Amit Kumar, Kummari Nikhil, Mekala Jaikiran Reddy, Rayapati Karthik, and Nabin Shrestha, facing various charges from solicitation to evading arrest.
Solicitation of prostitution is classified as a state jail felony in Texas, while solicitation involving minors is a second-degree felony. The operation also generated leads on other suspected prostitution activities, which are being pursued by the Sheriff’s Human Trafficking Unit.
