Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police on Tuesday arrested a serial killer Maina Ramulu, 45-year, who was allegedly involved in 18 cases of murder of women, besides other offences, was arrested in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Ramulu, a stone cutter, was caught by officials of the city police Task Force and the police of Rachakonda Commissionerate.
Earlier, Ramulu was arrested in 21 cases, including 16 murders, 4 property offences and one case of escaping from police custody.
He got married at the age of 21, but within a short period his wife ran off with another person, and he bore a hatred against women since then, the police said.
He started his criminal activity in 2003, targeting single women by offering them money for sexual favours.
After consuming liquor with him, he will sexually exploit them and kill them by way of strangulation or by way of throwing a boulder and commit theft of valuable items from the deceased,” said the police statement.
Addressing a press conference, Police Commissioner Hyderabad Anjani Kumar said that the accused Maina Ramulu is a notorious criminal and has been involved in several offences.

The sleuths of the Commissioner’s Task Force, North Zone, along with the Rachakonda Police apprehended a most wanted serial killer, Maina Ramulu, and found two new cases of murder that are said to be committed by him. One case was under the Mulugu PS, Siddipet Commissionerate and the other was under the Ghatkesar PS, Rachakonda Commissionerate. Maina Ramulu, 45, who was a stone cutter by profession, was previously arrested in 21 cases in which 16 were murder for gain cases, four property cases, and had also escaped from police custody once. He was given a life sentence but was released from jail after appealing to the High Court. The search for Maina Ramulu began when Ananthaiah, from Venkatagiri, Jubilee Hills, filed a com- plaint with the police that his wife, Kavala Venkatamma, had gone missing. Venkatamma’s body was later found near a railway track at Ankushapur village, under the limits of Ghatkesar Police station. The police managed to arrest Ramulu in connection with the case and also in the other case where the victim is yet to be identified. It is said that Ramulu had taken to killing women as revenge after his wife eloped soon after marriage. He would identify lone women and invite them to spend time with him. Afterward, he would get them into an inebriated state through alcohol, gratify himself sexually, and murder them by strangling them or hitting them with a boulder. He would rob them of their valuable items and make his es- cape. The accused was handed over to the SHO, Ghatkesar PS for further investigation.

Brief history of Accused:
The accused Maina Ramulu is born and brought up at Aarutla (village), Kandi Mandal, Sanga Reddy District of Telangana State. When he was 21 years old, his parents performed marriage with a lady, but within a short period she eloped with another person. Since then, he bore grudge against women and committing serial killings of women.

Life imprisonment:
He was convicted In Cr.No. 219/2009, U/s. 302, 379, 301 IPC of Narsingi PS, Cyberabad and the accused Maina Ramulu sentenced to suffer for Life imprisonment and fine of Rs. 500/-, Dt.21-02-2011.
Escaped from Jail:
While under life imprisonment in Central Prison Cherlapally. On O1-12-2011 he was admitted in Mental Hospital, Erragadda for treatment. Later with pre planned he along with 5 others were escaped from Mental Hospital on the intervening night on 30-12-2011. In this regard a case was registered in Cr.No.1209/2011, U/s. 224 IPC of SR Nagar PS against the escaped prisoners.
After escaping the accused Maina Ramulu committed (05) more murder for gain cases in the limits of Bowenpally PS (2 cases), Chanda Nagar PS(2 cases) & Dundigal PS (1 case).
He was arrested by Bowenpally PS on 13/5/2013 in 05 cases. After this arrest he released from jail on 03-10-2018 in an appeal petition by the Hon’ble High Court.
After that he did not change his attitude again committed two murders one in the limits of Shamirpet PS, another one in Patancheru PS. Again he was arrested and remanded to judicial custody in Cr.No.117/2019, U/s 302, 379 IPC. Later he was released from Central prison Cherlapally on 31/7/2020.
Present Confessed cases:
1. In the similar MO on 10-12-2020 evening hours with evil intention the accused went to Bala Nagar (Cyberabad) toddy compound, trapped one unknown woman aged in between 35 to 45 yrs, onvinced her to consume liquor with him and offer to pay huge amount for sexual desire, took her to isolated area in the limits of Japtha Singyapally village, Mulugu PS,(Siddipet). Both consumed liquors, accused with prior plan brutally murdered her by strangulating with her saree and committed theft of silver items etc from the deceased dead body and escaped from the scene.
2. After the above offence in similar MO on 30-12-2020 he trapped a woman by name Smt. Kavala Venkatamma W/o Anathaiah, Age 50 yrs, R/o. Venkatagiri, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad from Yousufguda Toddy compound (jubilee Hills PS limits) and took her to isolated area of in the limits of Ankushapur village, Ghatkesar PS. After consuming liquor on petty issue argued with her, brutally murdered her with boulder and sped away with her valuable property.
MODUS OPERANDI:
The accused Maina Ramulu is notorious murder for gain offender. He habituated to murder ladies for illegal gain in isolate areas. He is having habit of consuming toddy, liquor, and move nearby toddy compound, wine shops with evil intention target the single woman and trapped them for offering amount for sexual desire. After consuming liquor or toddy with him, he will enjoy sexually and kill them by way of strangulation or by way of throwing boulder and commit theft of valuable items from the deceased.
