SBI Bank Manager Arrested for Approving Loans to Ineligible Customers in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A State Bank of India branch manager was arrested by the Detective Department of the Hyderabad police for allegedly cheating the bank of Rs. 1.75 crore by approving loans to ineligible persons.

The arrested person, J Deepak, 35, who worked as the manager of the SBI’s branch in the city opened 130 OD/Xpress credit accounts and sanctioned loans to ineligible people.

“Deepak approves loans to people to the tune of Rs.10.19 crore without following the necessary guidelines issued by the bank. Many of the loans became non-performing assets and the bank suffered losses to the tune of Rs. 1.75 crore,” said Avinash Mohanthy, DCP (Detective Department).

Following a complaint made by the bank officials, a case was registered against him early this year and he was arrested on Tuesday.
