Nagpur: The RSS has distanced itself from the demand to remove Aurangzeb’s tomb, with its leader Sunil Ambekar stating that the Mughal emperor is no longer relevant. This comes after RSS-affiliated VHP and Bajrang Dal protests in Nagpur turned violent, allegedly after a ‘chadar’ with Quranic inscriptions was burnt. The VHP denies this claim but continues to push for a memorial at Aurangzeb’s tomb.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has called the riots a “pre-planned conspiracy.” The violence injured 38 people, including 33 police personnel.
