Rs 1 Lakh Aid for Haj Pilgrimage – Chandrababu Naidu

Hyderabad: Ahead of his swearing-in ceremony, a statement made by Chandrababu Naidu, the chief minister-elect of Andhra Pradesh, has gone viral on social media. During his campaign, Naidu promised financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to every Muslim pilgrim from Andhra Pradesh traveling to Mecca for Haj if the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) came to power in the state. This announcement, made in Nellore, has sparked considerable discussion online.

The Haj pilgrimage, starting on June 14, is a crucial Islamic rite, and Naidu’s promise comes during this significant period. This pledge is part of his broader strategy to gain support from various communities by highlighting his past contributions, such as establishing an Urdu university and constructing Haj Houses during his previous tenure. Naidu also criticized the outgoing YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government for not building new mosques in the past five years.

Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) won a significant majority in the recent Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, marking a major setback for the incumbent YSRCP. He is set to be sworn in as Chief Minister on June 12. However, he faces financial challenges, including the need to disburse over Rs 4,500 crore in social pensions to about 65 lakh beneficiaries by July 1​
