Restaurants in Hyderabad, Telangana to Receive Hygiene Ratings

Hyderabad: Following recent inspections that exposed poor hygiene and expired food in restaurants, the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) Hyderabad chapter has decided to implement a hygiene rating system for restaurants. This initiative aims to improve food safety standards across the city and state.

To achieve this, the NRAI Hyderabad chapter has formed a special food safety task force to develop and enforce the rating system in line with FSSAI standards. The task force, led by NRAI Hyderabad chapter head Sampath Tummala, will conduct hygiene audits using third-party auditors to monitor quality.

The 15-member task force will also organize FSSAI awareness workshops and training sessions for restaurant members, with the first session already held. In collaboration with FSSAI and GHMC, the task force plans to host a food safety week and medical camps to certify restaurant staff.

Sampath Tummala emphasized the task force’s commitment to enhancing food safety awareness and protocols among food and beverage operators. The task force members have discussed their plans with Telangana State Food Safety Commissioner RV Karnan, who suggested displaying hygiene ratings in restaurants for customer awareness. Both parties have agreed to host a significant event in the coming months to promote food safety protocols.
