New Delhi, 06 March: Weeks before assembly elections start in four states and UT, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry, the Election Commission of Indian has instructed the central government to remove PM Modi’s photo from Covid19 vaccine certificates in states where model code of conduct is already in place.
The Union Health Ministry was asked to remove the photos, and the government has been told to adopt a system so that PM Modi’s photo does not appear on vaccine certificates in poll-bound states.
Claiming violation of the poll code, TMC in Bengal has cited photos of PM Modi on certificates of vaccination and accused him of stealing credit from doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers and “appropriating their dues”.
Derek O’Brien, TMC leader wrote in the letter to the election commission, “By placing his photograph, name and message on the provisional certificates issued by the ministry of health and family welfare, he is not only exploiting his post and powers but also stealing commendable credit from the producers of Covid vaccines. He is blatantly appropriating the dues of a vast army of selfless doctors, nurses and health service workers,” and “taking unfair advantage and undue publicity at the taxpayer’s cost” during elections.
Earlier on Wednesday, The Election Commission directed petrol pump dealers in West Bengal to remove hoardings featuring images of PM Modi within 72 hours from their premises. The direction was issued since these hoardings that advertise achievements of the central government, violate the Model Code of Conduct
