Rahul Gandhi Meets Hathras Stampede Victims’ Families

Hathras: Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP, visited the families of the Hathras stampede victims in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday morning. Accompanied by UP Congress chief Ajay Rai, state Congress in-charge Avinash Pande, and spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, Gandhi assured the families of full support from the Congress party. The stampede, which occurred during a ‘satsang’ by religious preacher Narayan Saakar Hari (‘Bhole Baba’), resulted in 123 deaths. Gandhi’s visit included interactions with grieving family members who recounted the tragic events.

Ahead of Gandhi’s visit, the Uttar Pradesh police conducted a search operation at Ram Kutir Charitable Trust in Mainpuri for ‘Bhole Baba’, but did not find him. An FIR has been filed naming the event organizers, but not the preacher himself. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had also visited Hathras earlier to review the situation and meet the injured. A three-member Judicial Inquiry Commission led by Justice (retd) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava has been formed to investigate the incident and will report their findings within two months.
