Malkajgiri Police Arrest Notorious Gang Involved in Multi-State Transformer Copper Wire Theft, Seize ₹35 Lakh Worth of Property

Hyderabad: On 23-09-2024, under the guidance of Commissioner Mr. Devender Singh Chauhan and the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Malkajgiri Zone, a notorious gang involved in organized thefts of transformer copper wire across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Bihar was arrested. The gang of 8 individuals specialized in targeting isolated transformers, stealing copper wire, and selling it for personal gain.

The police recovered ₹2,73,000 in cash, four mobile phones, a motorcycle, a Tata XL6 car, and 200 kg of copper wire, with the total seized value amounting to ₹35,00,000.

Gang Members: Key accused include Bikram Kumar Singh, Mahender Ram, Ramkumar Singh, Devendra Kumar, Sanoj Kumar, Premnath Ray, Rajkumar Ray, and Amit, who were arrested and produced in court.

Background: The gang, active since 2021, was known for stealing copper wire from transformers in remote areas, using vehicles to transport the stolen goods. Bikram Kumar Singh joined the gang after moving to Hyderabad in 2012 and expanded operations across several states. The police, having tracked the gang’s movements, successfully apprehended them through a well-planned operation.
