Cyberabad Police Arrest Five for Smuggling 800 Kg Ganja

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Special Operations Team arrested five members of a gang involved in smuggling and selling ganja. They seized 803 kg of the contraband, a DCM container, and a car.

The arrested individuals are Somanatha Khara (34) from Malkangiri, Odisha; Sanjeev Kumar Hollappa Okare (48) from Bidar; Harade Sanjeev Vittal Reddy (35) from Bidar, Karnataka; Sunil Khosla from Odisha; and Jaga Suna (26) from Odisha.

Two others, Ramu from Araku and Suresh Maruthi Patil from Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, are absconding. According to D Srinivas, DCP SOT Cyberabad, the seven-member gang was involved in the sale, transportation, and supply of ganja.

Ramu supplied the contraband through DCM and lorries to clients across the country. Recently, Somnath Khare arranged to supply ganja to Navi Mumbai with Sanjeev Vittal. On August 1, Sanjeev went to Vizag in a DCM to collect barrels of chemical solvents from a company and transport them to Maharashtra. He also took the ganja from Somnath to transport to Navi Mumbai. The ganja consignment was hidden in the DCM and transported under the guise of chemical solvents. The SOT team caught them at Shamshabad based on a tip-off.

A kilogram of ganja is priced at Rs 35,000 in the market. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend Suresh and Ramu.
