Orphanage Girls Shifted to Govt Home after Rape case in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Government run WD&CW (Department of Women Development and Child Welfare) has moved 49 girls from the Maruthi Orphanage in Ameenpur to the government home in the city for their safe keeping. This is following the rape and subsequent death of a 14-year-old girl who was living in the Maruthi Orphanage.

Out of 49 girls, 29 are Minor below 18 years of age and the rest are more than 18 years old. All Minor girls shifted to the State Home in Yousufguda while the rest were shifted to other government homes, according to officials.

The officials have now decided to supervise the activities in 429 such homes in which around 14,000 girls are staying.

D Divya, Commissioner WD&CW, is coordinating with the police and other departments concerned in the case. Stern action will be taken against those responsible for the death of the girl, officials said, adding that cases were already booked against those involved in the incident at Ameenpur and Jeedimetla police stations.
