Death Due to Oxygen Shortage “Not Less Than Genocide”: Allahabad High Court

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court in Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday, observed that the death of Covid-19 patients only due to non-supply of oxygen to hospitals is a criminal act, and  “not less than a genocide” by concerned authorities responsible for the oxygen supply.

A two judges-bench justices Siddharth Verma, and Justice Ajit Kumar passed remarks were made on news regarding the death of several Covid-19 patients due to lack of oxygen in Lucknow, Meerut, and other districts.

The Hightcourt bench also ordered an inquiry into the incidents and instructed both District Magistrates of Lucknow and Meerut to enquire into such incidents within 48 hours and submit their reports on the next date.

The High Court Bench observed as “We are at a pain in observing that death of Covid patients just for non-supplying of oxygen to the hospitals is a criminal act and not less than a genocide by those who have been entrusted the task to ensure continuous procurement and supply chain of the liquid medical oxygen,”

“How can we let our people die in this way when science is so advanced that even heart transplantation and brain surgery are taking place these days,” high court order added.
